In Valencia, Ximo Puig, the Deputy Chairman of Generalitat and Secretary General of PSPV-PSOE, stressed that democratic forms matter and that the process should be transparent. He indicated there was no obstacle to considering a group that wishes to push forward with the formation of new parliamentary groups, provided there is consensus and readiness to accommodate such a move.
Puig spoke after the European Inventor Awards 2023, an event organized and granted by the European Patent Office and held at the Valencia Telecommunication Palace, with coverage by the Efe agency.
Mazón speaks plainly and asks Puig to “rise from the chair” so the government can break from complacency.
When pressed about a potential opening date for the reshuffle, Puig replied that it would be a decision for the Board. He emphasized a democratic and open process aimed at strengthening the transfer of power, noting that eight years of institutional work have laid a solid foundation for regional self-government and Valencian society to push forward.
Regarding Mazón’s request for the Consell to extend aid to include public transport, Puig said the idea was under consideration but should be agreed with the new administration. He acknowledged positive aid measures and argued it would be beneficial to sustain them as inflation is fought and public transport is promoted.
Discussing the future, Puig highlighted that the coalition has around 700 thousand supporters, marking the strongest result since 2007. He cautioned that it may still not be sufficient, but underlined that the project is geared toward future growth. He also indicated he would propose a name for the party’s Ombudsman in the Valencia Courts during the upcoming executive deliberations.
Puig’s comments align with those of Compromís on facilitating a governmental reshuffle in Valencia. The key difference is that Compromís has formalized a parliamentary caucus in the Valencian Parliament, while the Socialists intend to operate within the statutory timelines to achieve a similar outcome.
As the Cortes prepare to reconvene on a Friday, the progress of the deliberations will depend on the actual shortening of the Board of Trustees where all chamber parties are represented. Ultimately, the authority to influence this process rests with the Cortes president, Llanos Massó, and the political dynamics within the chamber.
