Valencian Interim Staffing Pool Expands Local Government Capacity in Spain

The Valencian Government has opened a public employment pool to address the needs of senior officials within local entities. The Department of Official Gazette has published the rules for the temporary provision of positions in secretariat, administration and treasury, and secretary-treasurer functions. The Alicante Provincial Council may benefit from this measure, as it can rely on the convocatoria to fill gaps in its current staffing. Four of the eleven secretary-treasurer positions at the provincial institution are currently vacant due to illness, which poses a challenge for smaller municipalities in the province. In their support role for municipalities, Provincial Palace staff handle these duties for towns with fewer than 500 residents and budgets under 200,000 euros, so the lack of personnel weighs on their ability to access subsidies.
