In shaping the new cabinet, President Shavkat Mirziyoyoy took decisive steps aimed at cutting poverty and boosting job opportunities across Uzbekistan. The leadership looked to proven strategies from international experience, and in particular drew lessons from China to inform domestic reform. The President’s presentation served as the basis for a comprehensive set of government directives, guiding agencies toward faster execution and clearer accountability in support of the population’s economic uplift.

Uzbekistan’s delegation recently traveled to China to study poverty reduction methods and identify practical approaches that could be adapted to the Uzbek context. Experts with specialized knowledge were brought into the Ministry responsible for Poverty Reduction and Employment, ensuring that the new programs would be grounded in evidence and real-world results. Based on what was learned in China, the country decided to roll out targeted programs in each region, with the explicit aim of lifting entire regions out of poverty through localized interventions that reflect regional needs and opportunities.

The Presidential press service highlighted that attention would be focused on industrializing micro-regions in areas facing higher poverty rates. The government plans to accelerate infrastructure development as a core driver of regional prosperity, while the Ministry emphasized that potential obstacles in implementing the program would be managed at the highest levels, with the Deputy Prime Minister overseeing progress and resolving interagency coordination issues to keep initiatives on track.

Earlier, Mirziyoyev signed a decree related to Uzbekistan’s transition to a mixed electoral system, signaling broader constitutional and governance reforms intended to strengthen the political framework alongside economic advancement. This sequence of actions reflects a multi-faceted strategy that aligns political reform with social and economic development, aiming to create a more inclusive economy and a robust pipeline for sustainable growth across the nation.
