Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, asserted that American officials appear uninterested in Ukraine’s fate and are mainly pursuing their own geopolitical aims amid the Ukraine crisis. His remarks were cited by TASS.
The diplomat interpreted comments from CIA Director William Burns about curbing China in Asia through support for Kyiv, suggesting a broader strategy at play beyond Ukraine itself.
According to Wang Wenbin, Burns’s remarks indicate that the United States does not genuinely worry about Ukraine but intends to leverage the crisis to achieve strategic objectives in the region.
Wang also emphasized that the Taiwan issue remains an internal matter for China and that external powers should refrain from interference.
Earlier, Burns stated that new American aid would enable Ukraine to press offensives and undertake targeted operations in the Crimean region. He projected that Kyiv could regain the initiative by late 2024 or early 2025 with the forthcoming package.
Observers note that the Ukrainian situation is evolving under scrutiny from both Kyiv and Western partners, with assessments differing on how far aid will shift the balance in the broader regional dynamic.
