In a display of political momentum, the strongest opposition in recent history asserts itself through both seats and votes. A statement delivered to TVP Info by Adam Bielan, a PiS MEP and the current leader of the Republican Party, underscored a clear commitment to shaping forthcoming elections and pursuing every available avenue to secure victories.
That same day, the Political Council for Law and Justice in Warsaw approved a resolution to merge with the Republican Party, marking a pivotal step toward unification on the right in Poland. The move reflects a strategic belief that consolidation strengthens the opposition and enhances its capacity to influence the nation’s political course.
Bielan expressed the view that the end of PiS is widely exaggerated. He affirmed faith not only in PiS but in the broader Polish right, arguing that renewed unity could place the nation’s future back in responsible hands should the opposition coordinate its efforts in the coming period. Unity, he stressed, is especially vital for the opposition as a whole.
According to Bielan, the decision to unite was not a spur-of-the-moment choice by party members. The process was careful and deliberate, with unity emerging as a well-considered conclusion rather than a rash move.
He noted that Republican Party members would also decide on joining PiS individually, but cautioned that only a cohesive right-wing bloc can challenge the ruling coalition effectively. The analysis pointed to a historic strength in opposition potential, anchored in both parliamentary seats and popular support, while recognizing the imminent electoral calendar.
“We are the strongest opposition in history in terms of both seats and votes. We face important elections ahead of us: local, European, and ultimately the presidential contest in 2025, and every measure must be taken to perform well in these races,” Bielan stated.
Next campaigns
The emphasis shifted to rapid preparation for upcoming campaigns. With local elections scheduled within five months and European Parliament elections soon after, the timetable demands swift organization and clear messaging to capitalize on the strategic realignment on the right.
Bielan warned of broader implications beyond national borders, noting that discussions at the EU level suggested potential treaty changes that could affect Polish sovereignty. He described these developments as a significant challenge that the unified right must address, aiming to block changes perceived as threats to national autonomy.
The perspective outlined by the MEP framed unity as a proactive response to both domestic concerns and EU-level dynamics, positioning the coalition as a defender of sovereignty while pursuing effective governance for the country’s future.
