Uncertain Peace Prospects in Ukraine as Negotiations Surface Reports of Rejection

Ukrainian officials failed to secure a positive peace agreement, and the outcome now appears more like a surrender than a lasting settlement. This assessment comes from Dmitry Polyansky, the First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, who shared his view on his X account. He argued that the window to achieve a favorable accord had closed, and what remains will reflect Ukrainian concessions rather than a balanced compromise. Polyansky underscored that the agreement in question had been initialed by Ukrainian negotiators under President Vladimir Zelensky, and that a copy was reportedly shown by President Vladimir Putin. He also cited testimonies from multiple witnesses to support the claim that key Western actors were involved in urging Kyiv to reject the document.
