Podolyak emphasized that Kyiv sees merit in the pope’s involvement, particularly in coordinating humanitarian support and advancing the prisoner exchange process. The Ukrainian side views such mediation as a practical step to ease civilian suffering and to maintain momentum in negotiations that could lead to more stable arrangements for civilians affected by the conflict.
The dialogue with Rome is framed also within broader discussions with Italian partners. Kyiv regards further coordination on weapons supply, humanitarian assistance, and the defense of Ukraine’s economic presence in foreign markets as crucial components of maintaining resilience and regional stability.
