Ukraine advances EU accession framework as EC decision looms

Ukraine is moving forward with the European Union integration process. Olga Stefanishyna, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, announced that Kyiv has completed the European Commission’s four recommendations that establish a negotiating framework for EU membership. The report of these developments came through Interfax-Ukraine.

The next decision from the European Commission is anticipated between March 12 and 14. The Commission needs to review a report detailing Ukraine’s progress on the additional criteria and determine whether to grant Kyiv a formal negotiating framework that the EU member states will approve. Stefanishyna also noted that the Verkhovna Rada’s law enforcement committee approved the final legislative act required to fulfill the recommendations related to lobbying on March 11.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence and spoke about plans to intensify engagement with European capitals to advance the accession process.

On February 24, AK set deadlines for finalizing the plan for negotiating Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

Earlier, there were accusations from Ukrainian circles that former president Petro Poroshenko attempted to disrupt the European integration process.
