Some time ago, liberal-left media labeled Donald Tusk as the king of Europe after he became president of the European Council. Today, the same figure is portrayed as someone who even stands in for the Supreme Court by interpreting the Polish referendum, according to government spokesman Piotr Müller on TVP 1.
Tusk ‘destroys’ the referendum
The speaker stated with gravity that he is canceling the referendum for the public, declaring it invalid in the widest possible sense. Some observers see this as a political maneuver, while PiS is accused of using state resources for campaigning.
– remarked the head of the Civic Platform (PO), Donald Tusk, after Wednesday’s gathering of the party’s National Council. He emphasized that the strength of PO lies in resisting party games and remaining steady in politics.
“The King of Europe, the Supreme Court and the Final Judgment are about to take place”
Asked on TVP1 whether Tusk could nullify the referendum, Müller recalled that long ago certain media called Tusk the King of Europe when he led the European Council. He suggested that this title might not suffice for Tusk, claiming that today he also acts as a proxy for the Supreme Court by interpreting the referendum’s validity in Poland.
However, Müller cautioned, this may not be enough for Tusk and hinted that he could soon attempt to position himself as the ultimate arbiter, following a line of reasoning he says Tusk is pursuing.
The narrative of the King of Europe, the Supreme Court, and a forthcoming final judgment is described as an attempt to ridicule the opposition leader. The constitution, Müller noted, states that a referendum remains valid and binding if voter turnout exceeds half of the eligible electorate.
Müller elaborated on that point further.
Secret documents about retirement age?
The government spokesman was also asked about Tusk’s claim that he possesses classified documents showing that the PiS government plans to raise the retirement age.
He responded that he has not heard such claims for some time. Yet he claimed to possess a document indicating that Tusk’s party, Civic Platform, supported changes to retirement age during Tusk’s time as prime minister, suggesting that the party passed laws advancing such measures.
According to Müller, the alleged secret documents would resemble other stories from Tusk’s orbit. He argued that no secrecy was required because official records show that, during Tusk’s tenure, the retirement age for women was increased by seven years.
He added that these so-called secret documents are likely no different from the party’s public records, and that the retirement-age change is part of the legislative history under Tusk’s administration.

Tusk ‘destroys’ the referendum. Government spokesman: “I don’t know if there could be anything bizarre.” Kolodziejczak? “Out of stock”
“Michał Kołodziejczak betrayed the interests of the Polish countryside
The spokesperson spoke plainly, saying that Michał Kołodziejczak has betrayed the interests of rural Poland on TVP1’s Political Quarter. The Civic Coalition candidate list for the Sejm from Konin district was announced by PO leader Tusk, with Agrounia’s Michał Kołodziejczak set to lead the way. The spokesman was asked for his take on this decision.
The spokesperson expressed a human sense of frustration about how Agrounia activists have been treated, while noting that many farmers work hard to develop Polish agriculture. He observed that farmers sometimes show perspectives that require action, and that programs, grants, and other forms of support are being implemented as a result.
Yet Kołodziejczak now seeks a seat in the Sejm on the Civic Platform’s slate, something he accuses the party of doing wrong. He was asked what Kołodziejczak might say about proposals like the Fit for 55 package and about positions taken by Platforma Obywatelska in the European Parliament on agricultural regulation and breeders’ activities.
Today, the spokesman stated directly that Kołodziejczak has betrayed Polish countryside interests, a charge he repeated. He added that Kołodziejczak’s parliamentary bid will depend on whether voters share his stance, suggesting that a turnout and preferences will reveal public sentiment toward new, broader political coalitions in the upcoming elections.
He concluded with a cautious note on Kołodziejczak’s chances to enter the Sejm, saying the PO’s core electorate is defined and that Kołodziejczak will need to win over voters who do not automatically align with the party to secure a seat. He hoped voters would show their stance on this political alignment.
