The Civic Platform is attempting to shift accountability for the ongoing protests by Polish farmers and to place blame on its predecessors for the current troubles. On the day of a major agricultural demonstration in Warsaw, PO released a video claiming that Poland now has a government that reads as taking Polish farmers seriously. The spot does not acknowledge Tuesday’s discussions between farmers and the Sejm chair, Szymon Hołownia, or the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Jan Grabiec. It also sidesteps the broader wave of farmers’ protests sweeping across Europe.
The Civic Platform published its message on social media.
PO blames his predecessors
The PiS party has left the Polish countryside frustrated. Farmers are protesting against the European Green Deal today, but who bears responsibility? The video spotlights Janusz Wojciechowski, the European Commissioner for PiS, who once said, there is no reason to fear that the Green Deal will burden the Polish people, on the contrary. Today, PiS seems to dodge accountability for the difficult agricultural situation, while many Poles recall the broader consequences.
– the narrator explains.
“Today, Poland has a government that addresses this problem and treats Polish farmers with seriousness,”
– the message continues, hinting that more details will follow.
The farmers’ talks ended in disappointment
A large farmers’ protest took place in Warsaw on Tuesday. Delegations met first with Marshal Szymon Hołownia and then with the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Jan Grabiec. Hołownia told the gathered crowd that “The Sejm is the place where we talk and make decisions. We cannot influence everything because we are not the government.” Farmers described the conversation as lacking concrete details.

Addressing the protesters after the meeting, Szczepan Wójcik stated: “There is no agreement, there are demands, now we are waiting for the action of the parliament and the government.” Discussions with Grabiec also did not yield results.
Details were presented and demands outlined, yet the delegates felt the government offered nothing substantial to share with supporters.
– Wójcik remarked.
He added that the protest would continue.
Before the video was published, observers could have noted the banners carried by the farmers marching in Warsaw. The banners might have clarified who the demonstrators hold responsible for their difficulties. It is also noted that Donald Tusk was on a foreign trip that day, as the demonstrators hoped to speak with him and chose to go to the Prime Minister’s office rather than to Nowogrodzka in front of the PiS headquarters.
