The PNAT Probes French Citizens’ Deaths in Ukraine

The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) is examining the deaths of two French nationals in Ukraine, as reported by RIA News with reference to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

According to the investigation, these individuals are described as humanitarian aid workers within the inquiry overseen by the prosecutor’s office.

The publication notes that an inquiry has opened into possible war crimes and the intentional targeting of a person protected by international humanitarian law.

Earlier, volunteers had identified the names of French mercenaries who perished in the Russian armed forces attack on Kharkov on January 16. Among those named was the son of a brigadier general and a member of a historic military lineage.

Around the same time, the Russian Ambassador to Paris, Alexey Meshkov, reported a meeting with French members of parliament in which he conveyed a message from the State Duma to the French National Assembly regarding French nationals involved in Ukraine.

Previously, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement concerning the alleged presence of French mercenaries in Ukraine and clarified aspects of that claim.
