Opening borders, the argument goes, could spread images of Lampedusa across European cities, a scenario that concerns officials in Poland. Paweł Jabłoński, the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, voiced this warning on Radio One. He warned that if the Civic Platform gains influence over state institutions, Poland could face political changes that align with Brussels or Berlin’s expectations, leading to broad political shifts that critics fear would extend into everyday life.

PO’s takeover means ‘absolute purge’

The deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs linked the opposition’s plan to restructure the public media with a fear of sweeping reforms. He stated that influence over state institutions by the Civic Platform would trigger a comprehensive purge across key public sectors.

He asserted that if the Civic Platform were to gain power, it would inaugurate an era of sweeping replacements and a complete reorganization of available positions. The claim was that the party does not prioritize media pluralism.

Jabłoński argued that some media outlets sympathetic to the Platform are pushing lists of individuals to be dismissed. He characterized the party as being driven by a desire for revenge for perceived past grievances.

According to him, the aim would be for all media to reflect the same narrative as outlets favorable to the Platform, thereby concealing past policy choices made by Tusk. He described these as norms reminiscent of pre-2015, when media dominance was more centralized, and suggested that those times might return.

– emphasized the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The threat of illegal migration

The discussion also addressed illegal immigration. Jabłoński stressed that opening borders could lead to widespread displacement, including scenarios in Poland, if the Civic Platform were to ascend to power.

He pointed to demographic trends, arguing that without a firm barrier and a veto against attempts to move illegal migrants, the numbers would grow.

Human smugglers are closely watching Europe’s openness and weakness. They are increasing efforts as they perceive a divide and weakening resolve among European authorities.

To prevent such outcomes, he called for stronger border defenses, more patrols, and close cooperation with North African nations to curb trafficking. He also suggested supporting these countries through development aid and financial assistance, while maintaining strict border controls.

The deputy head reiterated that relaxing border rules would bring the same images of Lampedusa to European cities, including Poland, should the Civic Platform assume power.

– added Paweł Jabłoński.
