Parliamentary clash over a perceived vulgar gesture
Tomasz Zimoch (Polska 2050) notified the Sejm about submitting two letters: one to the parliamentary ethics committee and another to the PiS club. He claimed that Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński manipulated him and accused him of making a vulgar gesture. In an interview with PAP, Jabłoński said he had already apologized to MP Zimoch.
On Polsat TV’s Debata Dnia, Zimoch recounted that the day before yesterday Jabłoński engaged in a strong accusation, alleging that Zimoch had performed a vulgar gesture toward Poland.
– said Zimoch.
Two letters to parliament
Zimoch stressed that the gesture Jabłoński referenced had been misread. He insisted it was not insulting. He asked for a public apology from the MP, but Jabłoński did not offer one, according to Zimoch.
That is why two letters were submitted to the Sejm. One letter seeks a summons and a preliminary inquiry by the PiS club, while the other is addressed to the parliamentary ethics committee, which was not yet formed. Zimoch argued that Jabłoński’s conduct, unbecoming of a deputy, violated standards of conduct.
– said Zimoch.
Zimoch’s demands
In the first letter, Zimoch calls for a clear public statement from Jabłoński: “I, MP Paweł Jabłoński, apologize to MP Tomasz Zimoch for spreading false information on November 14 during the Debata Dnia program on Polsat News, which claimed that Zimoch made a vulgar gesture toward Polish citizens, violating his personal rights and harming his good name, dignity, and honor.”
He requests that this statement be aired on Polsat television before the main edition of Events. He also asks Jabłoński to donate a suitable amount to a social cause, naming Anna Wierska’s foundation, The Gift of Marrow, as the recipient.
Relying on his attorney Michał Fertak, Zimoch expressed hope that Jabłoński would comply with the lettered demands and that the matter would not go to trial.
This case marks a somber moment after the first Sejm session, with strong emotions. Jabłoński reportedly presented a photo of Zimoch implying a middle-finger gesture, which Zimoch dismissed as absurd.
– he stated.
Reaction from the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Jabłoński told PAP that he had already apologized to Zimoch. “I need to read today’s statement from Mr. Zimoch. I apologized to him and I stand by that apology. If I think it necessary, I will respond later,” said the deputy head of the ministry.
