The Swiss government has allocated about 6.1 million dollars to support Ukraine by restoring schools, according to reports from TASS.

This education aid is part of a larger commitment worth roughly 140 million Swiss francs (around 155 million dollars) that the Federal Council announced in February and that Parliament has approved, the government stated.

Officials noted that the Ukraine aid package received endorsement from Ignazio Cassis, the head of Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry. The funds are aimed at rebuilding and expanding about 30 educational institutions in Ukraine, with a focus on restoring facilities, improving learning environments, and supporting local educators and students during the recovery process.

In a separate foreign policy decision, the former Swiss Federal Council did not approve a request from a local defense contractor, Ruag, to sell 96 Leopard 1 A5 tanks meant for transport to Ukraine to the German defense group Rheinmetall. Bern explained that the decision aligns with Switzerland’s neutral status and specific military property laws, which would be breached by such a sale and could prompt changes to the country’s neutrality policy.

Earlier, Switzerland had allowed the re-export of weapons to Kyiv in certain circumstances, but this move did not go forward in this particular case, reflecting careful consideration of neutrality rules and international commitments.

Overall, Swiss policy shows a clear pattern: prioritizing humanitarian and educational support for Ukraine while maintaining strict neutrality in military matters. The education aid underscores the government’s preference for noncombat assistance that can strengthen Ukrainian communities and long-term reconstruction efforts, while arms-related decisions continue to be guided by legal frameworks and the country’s longstanding neutrality principles.
