The military unit in Augustów is set for rebuilding in a region long viewed as highly sensitive within Europe, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin who spoke in Białystok on Sunday.

In his remarks, Sasin suggested that an additional unit would be rebuilt or that information about its reconstruction would soon be announced in Augustów. He emphasized that the location sits at a critical point not only for Podlaskie Voivodeship but for Poland and Europe, given its position on the strategic Suwałki Isthmus.

Experts describe the area as one of the most perilous spots on the European map. The plan calls for a robust unit that would help defend this sector of the country, Sasin noted.

Speaking further, Deputy Prime Minister Sasin argued against any notion of regional division within Poland. He stated that the government does not recognize a split into Poland A and Poland B and pledged support for all Poles, regardless of who governs locally. He contrasted this stance with political opponents who he claimed divide the country along regional lines.

He also highlighted efforts to raise living standards across Poland. Achieving this involves substantial investment in infrastructure, aimed at reducing disparities in education, sport, culture, and health. He cited large-scale funding programs that have funneled more than PLN 4 billion to local governments in Podlaskie since 2019 from national funds dedicated to road construction, local investment, and strategic projects. This financial boost, he argued, is part of a broader plan to create a more prosperous and inclusive Poland.

From Sasin’s perspective, the aim is clear: to build a better Poland with greater opportunities for all citizens, reducing unemployment, poverty, and the lack of prospects that have weighed on communities across the country.

Tusk’s actions

Sasin drew attention to criticisms from the opposition led by Donald Tusk, who he said accuses the government of directing social programs only toward its own supporters. He claimed that such allegations are unfounded and insisted that the government supports all Poles, in both big cities and smaller towns, wherever they live. He pointed to policy examples as evidence of inclusive support across the nation.

During the day, Tusk was reported to be visiting various locations in Poland, offering his own assessments of the government’s policies. Sasin asserted that the former government, during its time in power, left behind a different economic reality, referencing statements made by a former finance minister about limited funds. He warned that returning to that era would marginalize Polish interests in favor of broader EU priorities, a claim he tied to members of the Civic Platform.

In closing, Sasin underscored the party’s commitment to advancing national interests and ensuring that policies reach all regions, not just the most politically active areas. The focus remained on strengthening the nation and safeguarding the well-being of its citizens.
