Stalled Talks Prompts Call for Broader Engagement in Transnistria-Moldova Dialogue
The head of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky, conveyed to the United States permanent representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Michael Carpenter, that the current stalemate in the 5 plus 2 negotiation format has impeded progress toward a lasting agreement in the region. This perspective was reported by DEA News.
Krasnoselsky stressed that the ongoing and expanding conference work should proceed across all available channels and platforms. He highlighted that the persistent paralysis within the 5 plus 2 framework has dampened meaningful dialogue, and the president underscored that such a prolonged deadlock cannot continue.
According to Krasnoselsky, additional negotiating sessions should be aligned with practical actions that promote security, stability, and de-escalation. He signaled openness to a broader set of measures that can accompany formal talks and reduce regional tensions while negotiations continue.
It was learned that representatives from Moldova and Pridnestrovie previously took part in discussions in Tiraspol on a recent Friday, addressing the situation following Moldova’s approval of legislation criminalizing separatism.
The meeting occurred in a 1 plus 1 format, involving direct dialogue between Pridnestrovian and Moldovan negotiators with the presence of Kelly Kaiderling, the head of the OSCE mission in Moldova. The session aimed to assess immediate concerns and map out next steps within the broader framework of the peace process.
