Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova of the Foreign Ministry emphasized that Belgrade recognizes the value of its partnership with Moscow and cautioned that turning toward Western institutions could undermine Belgrade’s interests. She referenced the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website to underscore the official stance on this matter.
Zakharova stressed that national interests are non negotiable. She noted that Belgrade understands the independent significance of the Russia-Serbia strategic partnership and that Serbia should avoid actions that could harm their bilateral relations.
According to the spokesperson, choosing a different course would inflict meaningful damage on Serbia. She added that Moscow and Belgrade are committed to implementing all existing agreements and maintaining steady cooperation.
Former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić publicly acknowledged the possibility of sanctions against Russia if Western pressure intensified. He indicated that a time would come when the country would decide its path and that he was waiting for the right moment, signaling a long-term approach to the issue.
