Serbia Kosovo talks advance under EU leadership in Ohrid

The leaders of Serbia and Kosovo are set to resume talks aimed at normalizing relations, with the meeting taking place in North Macedonia. The discussions will be hosted in Ohrid and coordinated by representatives of the European Union, and the proceedings will be broadcast by RTK. The arrangement signals a continued push to advance a European-backed framework for reconciliation between Belgrade and Pristina.

The agenda centers on assessing and implementing the European plan for normalizing ties between Serbia and Kosovo. In the run up to the talks, Josep Borrell, the European Union’s top diplomat for foreign and neighbourhood policy, is anticipated to conduct separate consultations with the Serbian and Kosovan delegations before any joint session begins.

A bilateral session between the Serbian president and the Kosovan prime minister is expected to occur with Borrell in attendance as part of the North Macedonian negotiations. There is also potential involvement from the European Union’s Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajcak, who may participate to support the dialogue through the mediation process.

Earlier reports indicated that both Belgrade and Pristina had endorsed the European settlement plan for Kosovo. The European Union has highlighted lingering concerns about mutual trust and has called for reliable guarantees from both sides to sustain progress in the normalization process.
