The Senate elections unfolded with remarkable excitement, marked by closely contested districts and narrow gaps between candidates. Three PiS-backed hopefuls stood out for their tight margins: Grzegorz Bierecki, Marek Pęk and Krzysztof Bieńkowski.
Senator Bierecki’s success
Grzegorz Bierecki, the former senator supported by PiS, was returned to the Senate in district No. 17, which includes Biała Podlaska and the counties of Biała Podlaska, Radzyński and Parczewski in Lubelskie. The outcome, based on data from the National Electoral Commission across all district committees, saw Bierecki secure 53.74 percent of the vote.
According to the National Electoral Commission, 71,167 voters in Senate District No. 17 cast ballots for Bierecki, amounting to 53.74 percent. His opponent was Marek Sulima, a councilor from Biała Podlaska representing Trzecia Droga, who received 61,250 votes, or 46.26 percent.
Bierecki, aged 60, has served in the Senate since 2011 and runs without formal party affiliation, though he is backed by PiS. He is a co-founder of the Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (SKOK) in Poland.
From 1992 to 2012 he chaired the National Cooperative Savings and Credit Union (SKOK) in Sopot, followed by a term as chair of the Supervisory Board from 2012 to 2014, and he has led the SKOK Supervisory Board since 1996. Since 2008 he has chaired SKOK Holding SARL in Luxembourg. Between 2001 and 2013 he served as Vice Chairman, and from 2013 to 2015 as Chairman of the World Council of Credit Unions based in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.
Marek Pęk won by a hair’s breadth
Marek Pęk, running for PiS, captured Senate District No. 31 with 43.93 percent of the vote, according to the National Electoral Commission’s district-level data. Grzegorz Małodobry of KO trailed with 41.85 percent.
Comprehensive tallies from all 441 district committees in the No. 31 Senate constituency—covering Kraków, Miechów and Olkusz—showed Pęk receiving 112,571 votes and Małodobry 107,235. In the 2019 election cycle, Pęk had secured 122,468 votes, representing 57.35 percent at that time.
Other candidates amassed smaller shares: Wiesław Bator of Wolni i Solidarni with 20,063 votes (7.83 percent), and Wojciech Ozdoba of Nowa Demokracja – Tak with 16,357 votes (6.38 percent).
Jackowski’s defeat in the PiS clash
In District No. 39, located in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, Krzysztof Bieńkowski, the PiS candidate, won the seat with 47.25 percent of the vote after votes were tallied from all 316 precincts in the district.
National Electoral Commission figures show Bieńkowski collected 80,567 votes, or 47.25 percent. Jan Maria Jackowski, representing KWW Jan Maria Jackowski, earned 71,404 votes (41.88 percent), while Gabriel Janowski of the Union of Christian Families gathered 18,539 votes (10.87 percent).
Senate District No. 39 spans the provinces of Ciechanów, Mława, Płońsk, Przasyn and Zurmoński.
