Statement from PiS on the anniversary of Saint John Paul II’s death
The anniversary of Saint John Paul II’s death is observed this year as a significant moment. The party expresses gratitude to God for the gift he was to the Church, Poland, and the world, while also defending his honor and good name. This sentiment was conveyed in a letter from Jarosław Kaczyński to members of PiS.
In a letter received by the press agency, the president of PiS affirmed that the anniversary is a special time this year. He noted that on this day, as every year, there is thanks to the Lord for the immeasurable gift the Polish Pope represented to the Church, Poland, and the world. He also emphasized the importance of standing up for the reputation of a great compatriot who once sat on the throne of Peter, and he urged continued defense of his legacy.
Moral opposition
Through these remarks, the PiS leader expressed personal moral opposition to what he described as an unprecedented campaign of insinuation and slander against Saint John Paul II. He pointed to multiple attempts to challenge his authority in Poland, asserting that the current attacks are more aggressive and more tainted by improper methods than previous ones.
– expressed the president of PiS.
He added that the list of allegations presented by researchers with notable scholarly achievements in the history of the state, the church, and especially the communist security services, to accuse individuals of acts unbecoming of both the Polish pope and his spiritual father, Cardinal Adam Sapieha, is exceedingly long.
Unreliability of the workshop, insufficient search reliability, selective use of sources, and interpretation to fit a predetermined thesis—along with ignorance or deliberate disregard of historical realities, including the methods used by the Security Bureau to fight the Church—were cited as key issues, though not exhaustive.
– wrote Kaczynski.
The head of PiS stated that the practice of lending credence to documents produced by the communist terror apparatus without subjecting them to rigorous historical scrutiny is particularly aggravating.
It is argued that today, testimonies obtained under coercion in the Security Service chambers are used to accuse soldiers of the Home Army of betraying the homeland and serving the German occupier.
– added.
According to him, another extreme of the chosen approach is the complete silence regarding many activities and initiatives undertaken first by Cardinal Karol Wojtyła and later by Pope John Paul II as part of the fight against pedophilia in the Church.
Experts noted that the entire pontificate of the Polish pope was marked by such efforts.
– wrote Kaczynski.
The purpose of the action
There can be only one direct aim behind this shameful defamation and the coordinated media campaign: to undermine the authority of the most prominent Polish figure in history, to tarnish his name, and to devalue his merits. The ultimate aim, according to the speaker, is to erode social bonds, fragment society, and render people more easily controlled and unable to think and act collectively.
– described the PiS president.
He added that attacks on Saint John Paul II represent another phase in a broad effort to destroy traditional values and rooted structures, alter perceptions of reality, and ultimately create a new social order built on ruins. The aim, he suggested, would be to nurture a new culture and a new mindset.
In this broader view of social engineering, connections to the past—religion, national identity, and a sense of Polishness—are labeled as hostile when they resist the new orthodoxy. Such elements are portrayed as obstacles to the bright future envisioned by the organizers, and they are said to be targeted for destruction or ridicule, perceived as a threat to social harmony. The ongoing discourse is viewed as a direct challenge to the Polish Pope.
– expressed the president of PiS.
Recalling that the anniversary coincides with Palm Sunday, he extended wishes for a peaceful Easter to PiS activists and their families as a sign of renewal and steadfast faith. The message urged reflection on the life and teachings of the Polish Church’s leader who served at the See of Peter.
May this time, aligned with Holy Week, fill hearts with faith, hope, and love. The message closed with cordial greetings.
– proclaimed the president of PiS.
