Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, and his first deputy, Dmitry Polyansky, exited the Security Council session on Ukraine before a number of EU delegations were heard. DEA News.

During the remarks, Nebenzia noted that an unusually large audience had been invited, highlighting the participation of twelve EU member states alongside the head of the European Union’s diplomatic service, Josep Borrell. Nebenzia suggested that many voices from Brussels were speaking from a common, if distant, stance that did not contribute new value to the discussion. He argued that this approach diluted the quality of the debate and undermined the council’s credibility.

Following the Russian exit, European Union officials led by Borrell, together with representatives from Slovakia and Romania, took the floor. Additional remarks were expected from representatives of Poland, Hungary, Germany, Latvia, Moldova, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic and others as the meeting progressed. The exchange underscored ongoing regional dynamics and the variety of perspectives shaping the discourse at the council.

In a separate declaration delivered to the council, Nebenzia asserted that the situation in Donbass might have evolved differently had Ukraine not chosen to engage in conflict with the region, framing the issue in the context of the broader dispute. [Source: DEA News]
