The Russian Embassy in Hungary responded to remarks made by the United States Ambassador to Budapest, David Pressman, concerning Russian President Vladimir Putin. The message was delivered via a telegraph channel used by diplomatic missions to share official positions.
Russian diplomats described the statements by the U.S. ambassador as an outrageous breach of the core rules and practices of diplomatic conduct.
In a public address delivered earlier this year, the embassy asserted that Ambassador Pressman made remarks about the President of the Russian Federation that were unacceptable and unprofessional in tone and substance.
The Russian side also suggested that American colleagues should study Henry Kissinger’s work on diplomacy. They implied that reading Kissinger could help illuminate the standards of professional behavior in international dialogue and negotiation.
In related commentary, Pekka Haavisto, a former Finnish Foreign Minister, attributed the shift in European security dynamics to a combination of strategic pressure and evolving defense postures. Haavisto noted that the contemporary security landscape in Europe has altered significantly since the emergence of broader geopolitical tensions, stressing the influence of recent strategic developments on country alignments and alliance considerations.
