Representing the nation, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov voiced strong certainty that the United States was behind the Nord Stream sabotage. He shared this view during a broadcast on Channel One in a program titled “Big Game.”
Ryabkov asserted that there is no doubt about US responsibility and that Russia will keep pressing to ensure accountability. He stated that there would be consequences if the United States faces no repercussions for the incident.
The diplomat characterized the attack as an act of terrorism of unprecedented scale and described it as a grim betrayal by the responsible party. He described the sabotage as a gross and ugly act, signaling a shift in the behavior of the US administration that he believes was previously unimaginable and unacceptable.
Ryabkov noted that a thorough examination of the incident would be raised at a forthcoming United Nations Security Council meeting. He expressed confidence that several explosions affecting gas pipelines require an independent international investigation with essential participation from Russia.
In Parliament, a draft resolution was introduced calling for an international inquiry into the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline explosions. The focus is on bringing together a wide international effort and ensuring that all relevant parties are engaged in the investigation.
On September 26, three lines of Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 sustained damage and gas leaks were detected. Seismologists recorded two separate explosions along the gas pipelines. Russia’s Federal Security Service has filed a lawsuit in connection with what it calls an international terrorist act, and the Swedish prosecutor’s office launched an official inquiry into the events, signaling the start of a coordinated, cross-border investigation.
