Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu spoke by phone with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. The call was reported by RIA News, which noted that the discussion touched on the status of the Moldovan language and included a request from Bucharest for Kyiv to acknowledge that there is no separate language by that name.
The Romanian side reiterated through its Foreign Ministry that Ukraine should recognize what it calls the absence of a distinct Moldovan language. The two ministers also talked about potential negotiations in the Bucharest–Kyiv–Chisinau format, alongside the Moldovan language issue. In addition, Kuleba confirmed the conversation via his official social media and highlighted discussions about new EU sanctions on Russia and Ukraine’s path toward deeper European integration.
Earlier reports indicated that Moldova has considered constitutional changes regarding the designation of the state language as Romanian. The exchange underscores ongoing sensitivities around language policy and regional cooperation in Eastern Europe.
