Over the past 24 hours, 105 foreigners aiming to reach Poland from Belarus were recorded, including nationals from Syria, India, and Iran among others, according to the border guard. Another incident involved stone throwing and burning branches toward Polish patrols, with no injuries reported.

On the X platform, the Border Guard noted that twelve of the foreigners attempting to reach Poland turned back to Belarus upon spotting Polish patrols.

Busy at the border

In the area of the Dubicze Cerkiewne outpost, another incident occurred where stones were thrown and branches set ablaze near Polish patrols.

No injuries were reported

– the border guard stated.

Video footage shows burning branches being hurled over the border fence on the Polish side, landing close to patrols using what authorities call technical means.

Burning branches were thrown near the border by Bialowieza. According to Major Katarzyna Zdanowicz, spokesperson for the Podlasie Border Guard Unit, the incident happened the day before yesterday after 22:00. The branches landed just behind the steel fencing on the so called technical road, and patrols extinguished the blaze immediately. She noted that similar situations have occurred before.

Data from the Border Guard indicate that more than 21,800 people have attempted illegal crossing at the Polish-Belarusian border so far this year. In March and April, approximately 2,500 such attempts occurred in each month, with about 3,000 in May. Nearly 3,000 were registered in June. In July, the figure rose to around 4,000, then dropped to almost 2,800 in August, and in September it fell to under 1,100.

Detentions of illegal migrants by the Podlaskie branch of the Border Guard this year involved individuals from more than 50 countries.

Along the 186-kilometer border with Belarus, a 5.5-meter-high steel barrier was completed in 2022 to curb illegal migration. The structure is supported by a system of cameras and sensors and extends 206 kilometers from the border, fully utilized by Polish border services.

The Border Guard has issued a call for a contractor to install an electronic barrier along the Bug River, spanning 172 kilometers in the Lublin Voivodeship. The project includes roughly 4,500 day-night and thermal cameras and 1,800 camera poles, with the surveillance center planned at the Nadbużański Border Guard Department headquarters in Chełm.

The tender for this project is expected to close in mid November to allow work to begin within the year. A separate tender this year aims to select a contractor for an electronic barrier along the border rivers Świsłocz and Istoczanka in Podlaskie Voivodeship, with work anticipated to start in 2024.
