Mandates, Pardons, and Political Tensions in Poland
The central issue concerns whether the chairman of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, is complying with the law. Following President Andrzej Duda’s mercy decision, ministers Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik have become Sejm members, according to Mariusz Błaszczak, the head of the PiS club.
Yesterday the president announced his use of the pardon law for Kamiński and Wąsik. Both PiS politicians left prisons in Radom and Przytuły Stare on the 21st, marking a critical shift in their status as they rejoined public life.
Mandates of Kamiński and Wąsik
On behalf of the Law and Justice Club, another letter was sent to the Chairman of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, demanding that the law be observed.
– Mariusz Błaszczak announced this at a press conference.
As a result of the mercy granted by President Duda and the subsequent rulings of the Supreme Court, Ministers Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik are now members of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, he stated.
– he added.
According to Błaszczak, attempts to terminate the mandates of the two lawmakers only confirm that Hołownia is allegedly acting in violation of the law.
In a cultural reference, Hołownia is portrayed as a store manager from a 1978 Stanisław Bareja comedy, with a board displaying customers he apparently does not serve.
– said the PiS club leader.
The appeal to Hołownia urged him to halt illegal actions. There remains time to reassess. It was suggested that political motives, possibly connected to a revenge agenda voiced by Donald Tusk, should not guide his decisions. The call was to follow the law instead, emphasized the MP.

A chaotic tone marked the exchanges as the discussion moved to parliamentary procedure.
“We don’t want a fight,” he stated, outlining a preference for calm and orderly proceedings.
When asked if Wąsik and Kamiński would attend the Sejm session starting tomorrow and what would happen if the Marshal blocked their entry, the PiS club head replied that there was no desire for conflict. He described the chairman and deputy chairman’s statements as provocations meant to spark confrontation. Asked whether PiS members would appear in the Sejm, he indicated responsibility lay with the parliamentarians themselves rather than with him as a party official.
PiS MP Krzysztof Szczucki stated that Wąsik and Kamiński have not lost their seats. They retain full rights and obligations to perform parliamentary duties. Once they appear in the Sejm plenary hall, their cards must be active so they can participate in votes.
– added.
