During a press conference, Prime Minister Donald Tusk referenced a heated dispute between Marshal Hołownia and Chairman Czarzasty, noting it was observed with interest by onlookers. The tone suggested some friction between the leaders of the Third Way and the Left, yet it was clear from the outset that Hołownia and Kosiniak-Kamysz were not going to be sidelined in this debate by their allies.

Tusk: I am a co-initiator of the bill on the right to abortion up to the 12th week

In response to questions about abortion legislation and the clash between Poland 2050 leader Szymon Hołownia and Left co-chair Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Tusk explained his stance. He stated that at the October 15 vote, the public chose not only to restore democracy and remove PiS from power but also to acknowledge the abortion issue as a priority, since the democracy camp had voiced clear positions. He reaffirmed his role as a co-initiator of a bill that would legalize safe abortion up to the twelfth week, noting that the proposal had been submitted, even though he did not overlook the positions held by Hołownia or Kosiniak-Kamysz on the matter. This reflects a commitment to legislative work rather than ballot-box confrontation, as described by the PO leadership.

He added that his approach differed from others: negotiations, dialogue, and persuasion would shape the path forward, with the Ministry of Health, in consultation with him, already taking steps that could adjust practice within the current legal framework.

– he noted.

“I don’t share the tone of resentment.”

The stance was further clarified. The committee is expected to diligently review the abortion-related projects, and once its work concludes, a vote will reveal each party’s position. This framework aims to bring transparency to the process and determine where each faction stands.

One point stood out clearly. While there was disagreement with Hołownia and Kosiniak-Kamysz on this issue, neither side had engaged in deceit. Each leader had stated, during the election campaign, where they stood. The tone of disappointment toward the other side was acknowledged, yet Tusk indicated greater common ground with Czarzasty on this topic than with his own allies, emphasizing that Hołownia and Kosiniak-Kamysz were not considered allies in this particular dispute from the outset.

The Platform leader has positioned himself as a figure of respect within the December 13 coalition, but questions linger about what would happen if the coalition’s abortion proposals falter due to a Third Way maneuver. The commentator wondered whether sympathy for the Platform might wane if political calculations shift.
