PSPV PSOE of the Alicante province marked another anniversary with a festive Christmas dinner attended by more than five hundred party members in Elche. The gathering welcomed Ximo Puig with warm applause, and present were the national MPs Santos Cerdán and Alejandro Soler, along with the PSPV Alicante Provincial Secretary who also serves as a national deputy.

Santos Cerdán opened by underscoring the value of every member’s presence. He also expressed gratitude to Ximo Puig for the work carried out in the Community over the years.

He pointed to the path ahead, noting that the party faces significant challenges yet remains confident about the achievements of the previous legislature. He highlighted steady growth and projected expansion in 2024, praising the commitment of the party to public service and social inclusion, with a stated aim to strengthen workers’ rights and support the most vulnerable groups.

He stated that the country had rejected a right-wing and far-right government and asserted that four more years of stability and progress are possible with Pedro Sánchez at the helm. He warned that the real threat lies in hate speech and the erosion of rights, urging the party to stay brave and focused on the larger good of Spain.

Santos Cerdán urged the organization to act with courage, reminding members that democratic coexistence requires overcoming internal contradictions for the common benefit of the nation. He concluded by affirming that Valencian militancy would guide the party through upcoming challenges.

“Injection of socialism”

Provincial Secretary Alejandro Soler began by thanking all attendees for their presence at the event and described the gathering as an injection of socialist energy. He also thanked Santos Cerdán for participating amid a busy period in government, noting that dialogue and agreed commitments would move Spain toward social values central to the party’s identity.

He added a remark about the political right showing overexcited behavior, distributing ministries and vying for government roles, yet positioning PSOE to return to power following recent election outcomes.

The discussion highlighted the government’s social agenda as a key differentiator: pensions increases, higher minimum wages, and the creation of stable contracts. Emphasis was placed on prioritizing young people and supporting families as core policy goals.

Soler also spoke about defending human rights both domestically and in international contexts, including the Gaza situation, and affirmed the party’s commitment to democratic memory. He reiterated that the party would strive to ensure ongoing reform and progress toward greater equality.

A government with a social orientation

Puig, the general secretary of the Valencian PSPV PSOE, followed with remarks of gratitude to everyone present for helping to reshape the community. He described eight years of changes that have positioned the region for a sustained project, noting that political arithmetic can be limiting but stressing adherence to established rules.

He declared that Spain would move forward with a socialist government, pointing to fiscal policy as an example of advancing reforms. The speaker asserted that those with more should contribute more and that the party would not allow wealthier interests to dominate policy.

The event drew a wide range of public figures, including national and regional deputies, mayors, councilors, and representatives from civil society. Notable attendees included the Alicante party secretary, the mayor of Xixona, the deputy speaker of the Alicante Provincial Council, and other regional leaders who support the socialist agenda.
