News reports indicate that the Public Prosecution Service is considering charging Poland’s 2050 MP, Deputy Minister Joanna Mucha. The case centers on the Madonna concert held at the National Stadium.
The Onet portal reported that investigators might file charges and question Mucha as a suspect. It noted that MPs were expected to discuss lifting her immunity on October 16, though no official confirmation had been issued. — Onet.pl
Controversy surrounding the concert
The Madonna concert at the National Stadium took place on August 1, 2012 and continues to provoke debate. At that time, the sports ministry led by Mucha allocated more than 5.9 million PLN for the event, funds intended to promote sport among children and young people and to support EURO 2012 initiatives.
In 2013 the Supreme Court indicated that the organization of the concert resulted in a loss of 4.6 million PLN.
Additionally, prosecutors allege that the then Minister of Sports agreed to lend the stadium space and facilities to a private company, contravening regulations.
This isn’t the first time
In 2014, during the prior government, Mucha testified in the case at the prosecutor’s office, but the investigation was halted. It later resumed under the Law and Justice administration when Zbigniew Ziobro led the Justice Ministry.
