Prime Minister Critiques Migration Pact Debates and Fiscal Policy

Another document has surfaced showing that Tusk’s party in Europe pushed for speeding up the migration pact, which includes admitting illegal immigrants, according to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Lubin.

Speaking about what many say is the core purpose of Europe, the prime minister addressed residents of Lubin in Lower Silesia during a Friday meeting, touching on the issue of illegal immigration.

Why is this issue especially urgent now?

– he asked the gathering.

They are telling the country they do not support letting illegal migrants in, but that is not true, he charged.

They amplified a string of scandals tied to irregularities, claiming that hundreds of visas were issued inappropriately.

They lie repeatedly because they claim a figure of 250,000 is accurate, he argued. Their aim is to obscure their real intentions.

Their true aim, he said, is to open doors to illegal immigration. That was the policy in 2015, and it is the same approach the PO government pursued, which he said is supported by evidence.

According to the prime minister, the situation is now even more troubling.

There is another document indicating that Tusk’s party in Europe demanded a faster implementation of the migration pact. This pact includes admitting illegal immigrants and, for countries unwilling to accept refugees, imposes heavy financial penalties.

Morawiecki added that a referendum would have been the clearest way to decide the matter. He noted that those on the other side fear such a vote.

The European People’s Party group in the European Parliament, which includes PO and PSL members, is pushing for an urgent debate on the migration pact during the next week’s plenary session. The debate is scheduled for next Wednesday.

“The level of lies on the PO side and the level of insolence is unbelievable,” Morawiecki stated. He recalled the tragedy on the A1 highway near Saturday’s incident to criticize Tusk for exploiting a human tragedy for political purposes.

Speaking about the accident near Łódź, he said that when a whole family died, opponents immediately blamed the current administration.

He reminded listeners that under Donald Tusk, road fatalities reached alarming levels, with thousands of deaths in past years and high numbers in 2011.

One death is a tragedy, he conceded, but he also pointed to last year’s 1,800 fatalities and argued that bringing up the accident to attack the government is unacceptable. He called the behavior insensible and shameless.

Addressing Tusk directly, he urged him to stop using human tragedy for political gain, calling that behavior monstrous and indefensible.

In Sierosław, on the A1 highway, a fatal crash involving a Kia and a BMW claimed three lives, including a 5-year-old boy. In Piotrków Trybunalski, Morawiecki spoke about Poland becoming tense and unclear in his view, referencing the incident and the public mood that followed.

People have lost confidence in authorities and institutions, he observed, going on to say that the situation demands mourning, focus, and effective, prompt law enforcement action. He cautioned that online chatter and public speculation stem not from curiosity but from puzzling omissions and misleading statements.

According to Morawiecki, the investigation and findings about the driver of the BMW should be shared openly, with accountability expected by the public.

The VAT Gap and National Budgets

Morawiecki asserted that the VAT gap during the PO era reached about PLN 262 billion, a sum he described as enough to build thousands of schools or many hundreds of kilometers of highway. He argued that this amount demonstrates the scale of budgetary losses and how it could have benefited local communities.

Alongside this, he noted that Poland currently has thousands of kilometers of new highways and expressways, contrasting that with potential improvements if the VAT losses had been prevented. He suggested that this money could have funded additional public infrastructure, should those alleged losses not have occurred during the prior administration.

He pressed the question about whether PO would be better suited to managing hospitals, auto repairs, or schools, inviting the audience to consider who should oversee budgets in the future. The meeting participants answered with a collective no to the PO’s management of public services.

In closing, Morawiecki highlighted the financial strains faced by Polish families due to the budget shortfall and urged continued vigilance against what he described as reckless fiscal and administrative conduct from the past.

This is the area where the public was urged to reflect on past policies and focus on responsible governance moving forward.
