Power, Representation, and Renewal at Alicante’s Provincial Council

During a period when the Municipal Cooperation Fund dominates headlines, the first major clash in Alicante’s provincial government unfolds between the governing team and the People’s Party, along with the PSPV-PSOE opposition. An extraordinary general assembly was convened at the Provincial Palace on Friday to approve the renewal of the organizational charts for key dependent bodies. Although a August plenary session failed to reach a deal on consultants and salaries, the rift has widened. The PSPV accuses the administration of appointing sanctions that curb their influence within these entities through an absolute majority. The PP argues that the distribution of representation in minority groups such as Compromís and Vox is a driving factor behind the changes.
