Opposition leaders push for a post-election cooperation pact
In a rare public appeal, a New Left co-chair urged rivals to sign a post-election cooperation agreement. He warned that if the ruling party secures a third term, a democratically elected government could operate with authoritarian tendencies.
He stressed that if PiS wins again, authoritarian governance could emerge through a democratic vote.
-
- He made the remark at a press conference in Olsztyn.
He warned that failure to act responsibly could lead to a third term for PiS.
– he added.
Post-election scenario
According to him, the opposition would face a difficult period of co-governance following any potential victory. Poland is at a juncture where only through reasonable cooperation can the country be steered away from a widespread sense of collapse in many sectors.
-
- He spoke of the need to sign a post-election cooperation agreement, noting that voters should understand that their ballots for the opposition would not be wasted.
He noted that the left has demonstrated the ability to build bridges.
The aim is for as many people as possible to cross those bridges in both directions, to shake hands on them, and to see these connections lead to a democratic Poland.
-
- The deputy speaker of the Sejm commented.
Leaders from PO, PSL, and Poland 2050 presented a draft of the parliamentary pact, detailing cooperation during the campaign and the formation of a post-election coalition. Opposition members are currently reviewing the document.
MP Magdalena Biejat stated at the Olsztyn conference that the opposition could win the elections.
Her message: the goal is to build a country that supports everyone, a state not owned by a single party or group but serving its citizens.
She pointed out that voters feel positions in various state institutions are being filled by people who are not competent but are connected to friends and relatives of the powerful.
Her plan emphasizes a state that is competent, efficient, and capable of delivering public services, expanding rental housing, improving public transport, and ensuring that schools teach critical skills for the 21st century rather than propagandistic content.
She stressed the importance of a governance model that delivers tangible results for people across the country.
Campaigning against the head of the Ministry of National Defense
MP Krzysztof Gawkowski argued that the opposition should call for the dismissal of the Minister of National Defense over the missile incident near Bydgoszcz. He questioned how a rocket could travel 400 kilometers, remain buried for months, and still lack accountability. He criticized the current government for not addressing security matters transparently.
He urged the opposition to file a joint motion demanding accountability and to remove the minister in order to prevent further damage to the military. The Polish army, he warned, could be compromised under the current leadership.
-
- Gawkowski commented.
The draft Sejm Pact presented to the leaders of PO, PSL, and Poland 2050 calls for close cooperation in the campaign and the formation of a coalition to govern after the election. The coalition would aim to strengthen representation in the Sejm and shape the next government.
