Looking at the people in power rather than the parties, today the Sejm’s majority is made up of politicians who advocate Polish sovereignty, independence, and traditional Christian values. These were the comments from Przemysław Czarnek, the head of MEiN, during a Friday appearance on TVP Info. He stated that discussions would be held with each of them.

“And in all of this I see an opportunity.”

Asked about the policy differences among opposition groups that say they are ready to form a government, and their stance on abortion up to the twelfth week, Czarnek touched on how different factions align on this issue. He underscored that 7,660,000 votes went to Law and Justice in the elections, describing it as more than a million more than the Civic Coalition and about 3 million more than the Third Way. He added that more than 11 million residents backed the parties opposed to PiS in the current landscape. (attribution: wPolityce)

Yet he noted that among the more than 11 million who voted for those parties, there were voters who chose parliamentarians who today identify with Polish tradition, democratic values, and Christian principles, and who, with deeper discussion, appear to oppose many of the proposals presently associated with those coalitions. “And I see an opportunity in all of this,” he reiterated. (attribution: wPolityce)

He pointed out that some supporters now seek power and that the leader of the PO, Donald Tusk, could become Prime Minister. Yet when looking at the current Sejm’s composition, a majority of parliamentarians are linked to Polish tradition, sovereignty, and Christian values that have underpinned the country for centuries, and he argued that ongoing dialogue with them is essential. He suggested that even if Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki had not secured a parliamentary majority in the first round of government formation, democracy would still see a government formed within the four-year term. He remarked on the broad differences in policy—from proposals that would restrict animal breeding and meat consumption to those who see farmers as representatives in need of support. When asked whether there would be a stable majority in the Sejm at every turn, he answered affirmatively, saying that such a majority exists and will likely continue. (attribution: wPolityce)

He asserted that the coalition’s balance is not determined only by party lines but by the individuals who represent them, and that the current Sejm structure reflects this reality. He stated that the majority in the Sejm today comprises pro-Polish, pro-sovereignty, pro-independence figures tied to Christian values, and he argued these positions stand apart from left-leaning ideology, gender discussions, and bans on meat or agricultural practices. “This will be the most difficult term of office of the Sejm in general.”

In anticipating the term ahead, Czarnek said it would be challenging for the Sejm to function under the existing majority, but that the period could ultimately safeguard Polish sovereignty and independence in the face of EU dynamics and the movement away from unanimity and veto powers among member states. He added that conversations with individual deputies would continue. (attribution: wPolityce)

President Andrzej Duda summarized last week’s talks with election commissions, noting two blocs claiming a parliamentary majority and each backing a prime minister candidate. The United Right’s candidate is Mateusz Morawiecki, while the candidate for KO, Third Way, and Left is Donald Tusk. The President also announced a tentative date for the Sejm’s first session of the 10th term, aiming for Monday, November 13. (attribution: wPolityce)

In the Sejm election results, PiS secured 194 seats, KO 157, Third Way 65, New Left 26, and Confederation 18.
