We will continue to nominate the same candidates as deputy chairmen of the Sejm and the Senate, hoping that there will be some form of reflection from the parties that currently hold the majority in terms of Sejm leadership, a government spokesman stated to Polsat News.

During the opening sessions, both houses elected their speakers, deputy speakers, and secretaries. The PiS candidate for deputy chair of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, did not win a majority, and Marek Pęk, PiS’s candidate for vice-president, failed to gain Senate support.

When Polsat News sought comment, the spokesman described the situation as surprising, noting that in the previous term half of the Sejm’s deputy chairmen were from the opposition.

Today there is only one opposition representative in the Sejm, representing the smallest party, while in the Senate the opposition is reported to be denied the right to appoint a deputy chairman.

– the government spokesperson said.

Slogans about democracy

The spokesperson argued that political groups marching under banners of democracy and pluralism have revealed their true intentions in recent times.

Nevertheless, voters are expected to assess the situation calmly, considering whether the opening was genuine or if it signals further polarization. This attitude, according to the spokesperson, is not a new development but a push toward greater division.

– the spokesman commented.

We will proceed slowly. We will keep proposing the same candidates for deputy chairmen of the Sejm and the Senate, hoping that reflective dialogue will emerge from the majority parties regarding leadership in these bodies.

– the government spokesperson added.

Another candidate

Earlier, Barbara Nowacka of KO commented on Witek’s failure to secure the deputy marshal position. She expressed a hope that PiS would run again and that the seat would not remain vacant. She suggested PiS should join the Presidium of the Sejm with a universally acceptable candidate.

– Nowacka stated.

She warned that PiS may resist such moves in the near future, arguing that the party needs an atmosphere in which it can frame accusations of injustice, but she urged a democratic approach and encouraged consideration of Witek’s conduct in choosing a compliant candidate.

Nowacka also noted that PiS voted against all candidates proposed by the parliamentary majority.

Do they expect votes from their opponents or not? The expectant approach will not be reciprocal.
