In recent days, the Internal Security Agency announced the detention of nine individuals suspected of collaborating with Russian intelligence services. The agency stated that the suspects conducted intelligence activities against Poland and prepared sabotage at the direction of foreign intelligence operators. The detainees are foreigners located beyond Poland’s eastern border, according to a statement delivered by Mariusz Kamiński, the minister responsible for internal security and administration.
Six of the detainees were ordered to remain in pre-trial detention as investigators pursued charges of spying for Russia and participating in an organized criminal group. Prosecution against three others continues as authorities gather further evidence. Investigators described a pattern of activity connected to guarding critical railway corridors, including tasks such as identifying, monitoring, and documenting arms shipments bound for Ukraine. The group was also associated with planning sabotage aimed at disrupting the supply of equipment, weapons, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
The minister underscored that the case involved a coordinated effort to destabilize regional ties between Poland and Ukraine, alongside propaganda campaigns intended to undermine NATO allies within Poland and to criticize the Polish government’s policy toward Ukraine.
Evidence collected by the agency included seized cameras, electronic devices, and GPS transmitters designed for use on aid transports to Ukraine. Intelligence assessments indicate the group was commissioned to influence public opinion and manipulate perceptions, thereby straining Polish-Ukrainian relations and creating friction with NATO members located in Poland.
Officials emphasized that the operation was directed at protecting national security and maintaining stability in reinforced alliance diplomacy, with authorities continuing to pursue leads related to the network’s broader activities and possible cross-border links.
Meanwhile, authorities reaffirmed their commitment to transparency in counterintelligence actions and to pursuing any individual or group that seeks to undermine the security of Poland and its partners.
The investigation continues as prosecutors and security agencies evaluate additional evidence and potential accomplices tied to this case, with further updates anticipated as the legal process unfolds.
The case has drawn attention to the ongoing efforts of Polish security services to detect and disrupt foreign interference operations, especially those that attempt to exploit critical infrastructure and influence regional stability.
The authorities cautioned that such activities threaten not only national security but also the broader security framework of the region, including the alliance with Ukraine and cooperation with NATO members across Europe and North America.
Officials urged the public to remain vigilant and to rely on official channels for information as investigative work continues and more details emerge about the individuals involved and the full scope of the operations against them.
