The head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Jan Grabiec, indicated that a number of ministers will appear on the European Parliament election lists, but he stressed they will form only a minority. He suggested that the official slate names would likely be published on Wednesday, once the Civic Coalition’s National Council convenes.

Grabiec told TVN24 that the Civic Coalition is ready with its European Parliament lists and plans to file them within the week. He reiterated that the candidate names would probably be announced after the National Council meeting on Wednesday.

Shortly after the long weekend, the campaign will begin with renewed energy and run for four weeks, the minister added.

When asked about how many government members might run for the European Parliament, he replied that there would not be too many, but a few would stand as candidates.

He would not confirm the exact names, noting that management would decide within a few hours. It is no secret that several ministers are expected to be among the candidates, though the number will be fewer than a quarter of all ministers in office.

Grabiec stressed that what matters more than any individual seat in the European Parliament is that the result shows a strong representation of Polish interests.

He added that today’s government ranks include the most recognizable politicians on their side, underscoring the political strategy ahead.

Grabiec also remarked that the focus should remain on communicating a compelling message to voters. If the aim is to energize turnout and persuade voters, ministerial candidates will appear on the lists, albeit as a minority within the overall slate.

He described this moment as an opportunity for Members of Parliament to back the slate’s results. According to him, the European Parliament elections carry significant weight comparable to the presidential elections that lie ahead.

During a meeting of the Board of Directors, Prime Minister Donald Tusk urged MPs to take a deep, active part in the European elections to build momentum for the lists. The minister emphasized that this period could galvanize support, even as there is a sense among Poles that the election cycle has been lengthy recently.

The forthcoming European elections are scheduled across multiple EU countries from 6 to 9 June. In Poland, 53 Members of the European Parliament will be elected on June 9, marking a substantial civic exercise for the nation.

As of now, the National Electoral Commission has confirmed the establishment of more than thirty electoral commissions. These include committees representing the Left, KO, PiS, Trzecia Droga-Polska2050, PSL, Confederation, as well as non-partisan local government groups and the Polexit committee.
