Polish Foreign Minister Urges Condemnation and Regional Coordination Amid Israel-Hamas Violence

The Polish foreign minister, Zbigniew Rau, stated that he spoke with the Palestinian counterpart, Riyad al-Maliki, during a call in which he urged condemnation of the attacks on Israel. Rau shared the account on his X profile, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

According to Rau, the conversation with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki focused on the incidents emanating from the Gaza Strip. He pressed for a clear public condemnation of the assault and emphasized the importance of regional coordination to reduce violence, which has claimed countless lives so far.

On 7 October, hundreds or perhaps thousands of rockets were fired toward Israel, coinciding with the launch of a military operation announced under the name Al-Aqsa Flood. In response to the escalating situation, Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, declared a state of emergency within the country on that same day.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel was at war as the IDF intensified its actions against Hamas. The Israeli military operation was publicly referenced as Iron Swords, and in the ensuing days, multiple air strikes targeted sites within the Gaza Strip, with reports of strikes on a significant number of Hamas targets.

Beyond the immediate hostilities, the conflict has drawn widespread international attention. Leaders and diplomats from various regions urged restraint, while others called for accountability and adherence to international humanitarian law. In such a volatile environment, the focus remains on preventing further civilian casualties and promoting avenues for de-escalation and dialogue among involved parties.

Observers note that the sequence of events has intensified regional security concerns and has implications for international diplomacy. Civilian populations on both sides have faced disruption, displacement, and casualties, prompting calls for humanitarian access and protection of noncombatants amid ongoing military operations. The situation continues to evolve as coalition, regional, and international actors weigh potential measures to stabilize the region and support a durable ceasefire.

Analysts also highlight the importance of transparent communication among governments. Clear statements about responsibility, condemnation of violence, and coordinated efforts to reduce hostilities are seen as essential steps toward restoring calm and pursuing a sustainable political process in the region.
