The government is convening in session as Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated. The meeting, which began shortly after 11 a.m., will address the ongoing Middle East conflict. Attending the session will be the Head of the National Security Agency, Jacek Siewiera, the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, General Wiesław Kukuła, and the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, Major General Maciej Klisz, along with other key ministers and officials who oversee security and defense matters.

The Middle East crisis carries immediate implications for Polish forces serving with United Nations missions in Lebanon and Iraq. This is a key reason for obtaining a detailed briefing on the status and welfare of Polish personnel on the ground.

The Prime Minister emphasized that national security amid the intensifying regional conflict would be a central topic of discussion during the session.

The Prime Minister announced plans to request assessments from the generals, the National Defense Minister, and senior ministers in charge of foreign affairs and intelligence coordination to evaluate the evolving situation.

What issues will be on the agenda

In addition to security considerations, the Council of Ministers will review tasks outlined in the current timetable. A major item is a draft amendment to the Law on the Principles of Development Policy, prepared by the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy. The intention is to strengthen the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, including the use of the additional loan pool under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, which features in the revised National Reform Programme.

The planned changes would enable, among other things, the signing and settlement of investments in euros associated with the loan portion of the development plan for offshore wind projects. The measure aims to boost confidence and channel funds toward those purposes. It would also establish a legal framework for entities responsible for delivering loans under the development policy program to assume liabilities when carrying out investments.

The proposal also foresees adjustments to the development policy programming calendar. The government’s approval deadline for the national development concept would be postponed by one year, extending to December 31, 2024, to allow the administration to better reflect the current government’s ambitions. The deadline for updating the Voivodeship development strategy would stretch to December 31, 2026.

Ministers will also consider draft amendments to labor law prepared by the Ministry of Family. The proposed changes align with the amended Directive of the European Parliament and the Council on protecting workers from exposure to carcinogenic or mutagenic substances. The directive expands the list of harmful agents to include substances toxic to reproduction.

The cabinet will discuss several ongoing issues as well.
