A Polish 2050 MP, Michał Kobosko, spoke on Radio ZET about the strategic implications of Marek Pęk receiving a positive vote in the context of his candidate for the Vice President of the Senate. Kobosko suggested that from a political and tactical perspective, it would be advantageous for the trajectory of the government if Pęk were supported. He also touched on Poland’s euro adoption and who might lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the interview with Bogdan Rymanowski, Kobosko stated that the presidiums of the Sejm and the Senate should include representatives from Law and Justice and the so-called United Right, reflecting a balanced approach to leadership roles. He noted that the decision on PiS nominees rests with parliamentarians and senators alike.

Kobosko admitted that he does not know all the arguments behind Marek Pęk’s candidacy for the Senate Deputy Chairman and does not have full insight into the case’s background. He added that he did not form the view that Pęk was the exact person to be voted out and that he does not participate in Senate deliberations.

He emphasized that all parties on the democratic opposition aim for a unified stance on this issue, and while there were likely reasons in favor of the vote, he was not privy to every detail.

The politician from the Third Way suggested that by rejecting Pęk’s candidacy, a myth had formed, and PiS could be portrayed as martyrs. He proposed that a positive vote for Pęk could shape political narratives and influence the party’s image as the situation unfolds, noting that seats exist within both presidiums and that PiS may propose new candidates for those positions.

Adopting the euro?

Rystating on the euro question, Kobosko said Poland should resume the process of preparing for euro entry. He warned against presenting a definite yes today, stressing that no immediate move is planned. He asserted that his party, still in opposition, sees the euro path as a potential direction for Poland in the future.

Sikorski as foreign minister?

Kobosko noted that one of the coalition partners would lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; if it is MEP Radosław Sikorski, he would offer his congratulations. The deputy head of Poland 2050 said that a member of the coalition would hold the post of minister of diplomacy.

Asked whether Sikorski might take a role in a government formed by KO, Third Way, and the Left, Kobosko replied that the coalition partner would indeed head the Foreign Ministry. When asked if a PO politician could be chosen, he replied that if Sikorski resumes the post, he would extend his sincere congratulations.

He warned that it would be demanding to operate in the ministry and externally, especially in international relations, as PiS exits a phase of political influence. He stressed that no responsible figure, including President Andrzej Duda, Sikorski, or others who will join the future coalition, would engage in activities that could harm Poland.

He added that cooperation with the president on international matters should proceed smoothly and that internal conflict is something Poland cannot afford in its relations abroad.

The leaders of PO, Polski 2050, PSL, and Nieuw Links signed a coalition agreement in early November.
