The clash with the European Commission should end, because the real struggle today unfolds to the east of Poland. EU funds will, in effect, bolster Polish defense, strengthen the armed forces, and reinforce our mutual security, according to the prime minister who spoke on Saturday.

Hannibal at the gates. Russia threatens our freedom right now. The economic strain with Europe, the hybrid and information battles, inflation, and rising energy costs are the major tests of our era. The stand-off with the European Commission must be settled, because the true conflict today lies to the east of Poland, the head of government wrote on social media Saturday evening.

The prime minister emphasized that EU funds will indirectly strengthen Poland’s defense, the Polish army, and our shared security.

These funds will help safeguard our independence and accelerate our development, he noted.

He stated that “the more sovereignty Poland holds, the stronger it becomes economically and militarily.”

Strengthen sovereignty

Let’s clear this up. EU money will significantly fortify our sovereignty, even if it requires taking a strategic step in certain areas, he wrote down.

The prime minister also highlighted that membership in the EU, and especially in NATO, “is today a guarantee of our freedom.”

There is also a present threat that our ancestors did not face, neither in the eighteenth century nor in the early twentieth. These are the financial markets that shape the rhythm of the global economy. They evaluate conditions around the world and assess risks for individual nations. Poland is subject to such scrutiny, the prime minister continued.

We can clearly sense the anger of those who wish Poland and our political camp ill. They hoped the dispute would not be resolved, they waited for negotiations to fail, and they still try to split us apart, he assessed.

According to the prime minister, “this only confirms that a quick exit from the deadlock is needed, because the clock of Russian attack plans keeps ticking.”

What matters is the resilience of the Polish economy, the protection of the Republic of Poland, our army, modern weapons, and domestic weapons production alongside purchases abroad. Defense, defense, and more defense, he stressed.

The prime minister also remarked that the Polish community, amid the world-shaping changes caused by the war in Ukraine, understands and accepts the aim of ensuring Poland’s security. Without it, neither the nation nor families can enjoy full prosperity. A united front around this idea is essential, Morawiecki emphasized.
