Election calendar
Today the decision was announced to issue a regulation and to submit it formally to the National Electoral Commission alongside the election calendar. The conclusion is clear: local elections are scheduled for two rounds on April 7 and April 21. The statement came from Donald Tusk during a press conference, presenting this as the initial step in outlining the local government election timetable.
As he explained, this marks the starting point for the local government election calendar. He noted that he remains in close contact with local authorities and that after receiving what he described as a positive decision from the National Electoral Commission—described as largely a formality—the process will move forward. He emphasized that these elections are particularly important for communities and for the everyday lives of residents.
The Prime Minister expressed optimism for April, hoping it will be a constructive month for Polish self-government and the communities it supports.
According to the Electoral Act, the window for local elections extends from March 31 to April 23, 2024. The forthcoming steps depend on the regulatory process and the Commission’s formal approval, after which campaigns and local civic participation are expected to intensify in anticipation of the voting days.
In remarks at the press conference, the emphasis remained on the significance of local government and the role that elections play in shaping how communities are governed at the municipal and district levels. The discourse highlighted the importance of timely preparation and alignment with national regulations to ensure a smooth electoral process for voters across the country.
Ultimately, the plan centers on establishing a concrete and transparent timeline that empowers local authorities to plan and execute elections that reflect the will of residents. The commitment to a clear schedule underscores a broader objective of strengthening local governance and civic participation in the democratic process.
