Poland has received two additional M142 HIMARS launchers along with other components of the PATRIOT/IBCS air defense system as part of ongoing modernization efforts. The deliveries are linked to the Homar and Wisła programs, which are designed to bolster Poland’s rocket artillery capabilities and shield its airspace. The remark came from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak, who highlighted the strategic significance of these arms enhancements for Poland’s security posture.
The announcement was posted by the ministry’s head on social media late on Wednesday, underscoring the government’s resolve to accelerate the integration of advanced defense capabilities into the Polish forces.
Two additional M142 HIMARS launchers and other components of the PATRIOT/IBCS system have arrived in Poland. These deliveries are being carried out within the framework of the Homar and Wisła programs, which are intended to substantially improve Poland’s rocket artillery capacity and air defense coverage.

What is in the contract?
The HIMARS package comprises 18 combat launchers and two training launchers, a purchase made in 2019 by Poland’s Ministry of National Defence for USD 414 million. The deal also includes GMLRS precision munitions with a range around 70 kilometers, ATACMS missiles capable of reaching up to 300 kilometers, and training munitions (LCRRPR). In addition, the order covers command vehicles, security vehicles, and a full logistics, training, and technical support package. The agreement granted by the U.S. Congress included provisions for Poland to receive an additional allocation of 500 launchers.
M142 HIMARS stands for High Mobility Artillery Rocket System. It is a rapidly deployable, long-range rocket system built on a wheeled chassis by Lockheed Martin. In contrast to the tracked M270-series MLRS, HIMARS prioritizes mobility and flexibility on varied terrain. These systems have been part of Western military assistance programs, contributing to allied defense efforts in recent regional conflicts.
The Patriot system represents a medium-range air and missile defense solution employed by the United States. Poland selected Patriot in April 2015 as the cornerstone of the Wisła defense initiative, intended to counter ballistic and cruise missiles at medium range. By late 2022, Poland was slated to receive two Patriot batteries equipped with 16 launchers, forming a key element of national air sovereignty. The modern IBCS (Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System) integration connects Polish Patriots into a unified battle management framework, a capability that is also advancing within the U.S. armed forces.
