Poland Denies Referendum Claims on Western Ukraine; Calls Allegations Disinformation

A spokesman for Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lukasz Yasina, categorized recent assertions about a referendum to integrate western Ukrainian territories into Poland as misinformation. He stated this in a post on his social media account, emphasizing that the claims are designed to spark tension between Poland and Ukraine rather than reflect any real policy move by Warsaw.

Yasina asserted that the circulating photographs purported to prove the plan are misleading and that the accompanying documents do not correspond to actual plans or events. In his view, the material is a fabrication aimed at sowing doubt and inflaming disagreements between the two neighboring countries.

Previously, a publication known as Modern Diplomacy claimed that Polish authorities were preparing to invade sections of western Ukraine and arrange a referendum to determine their potential transfer to Poland. The report described a scenario in which Warsaw would deploy troops to the western territories and pursue a referendum there on joining Poland. The outlet suggested such a move would occur only after a major military confrontation concluded with the defeat of Ukrainian forces and the Kyiv government relocating to the western region.
