Podemos is relocating its Alicante headquarters once again, moving into the space that previously housed Esquerra Unida in the city. The party announced the change along with an inauguration planned for Friday at 18 Maestro Gaztambide Street. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will feature Maria Teresa Perez, the regional coordinator for Podemos, a former member of the Congress for Alicante, and a former director general of the Youth Institute when the ministry was led by Pablo Iglesias.

Joining her on the stage will be Natalia Jerez, a councilor in San Vicente del Raspeig and Podemos spokesperson for Alicante and at the regional level. The poster also indicates the presence of councilors Borja Iborra and Eric Quiles, from Mutxamel and El Campello respectively. The list closes with the Alicante documentary filmmaker Pedro Irles.

Change of Venue

This is the third time Podemos has moved offices in Alicante. The first opened in April 2017 in the San Blas district on Presbítero Baltasar Carrasco Street, with Carolina Bescansa, then a deputy in the Congress, in attendance. At that location the party faced vandalism such as aggressive graffiti, some of which bore the Falange symbol, and even excrement placed on the door lock.

In 2022 the party moved to the central Velázquez Street, where the Alicante delegation of the Morados has remained until now. This week, three years later, Podemos moves again. It will relocate to Maestro Gaztambide Street, which in recent years has served as the headquarters of EU.

The move is attributed, according to Podemos sources cited by INFORMACIÓN, to the desire to face a new political moment that will begin after the citizen assembly the party will hold on April 11 and 12 in Madrid. The organization will also move from a first-floor space to a ground-level location with this relocation.

From United Left to Podemos

The space on Maestro Gaztambide Street has changed allegiances. EU settled in this site in December 2022 after being expelled from the historic sede located on Pintor Murillo, which it shared with the Communist Party. Disputes between EU and the Valencian delegation of the previous party (PCPV) led to an eviction that local militants from both organizations could not fully approve, yet had to accept.

That is how PCPV and EU briefly split before both organizations announced on March 15 that they would recover the traditional sede and return to coexistence.
