Poland 2050, together with PSL, opposes the proposals put forward by Law and Justice and the Civic Platform to index the 500 plus benefit at 800 PLN, arguing that there is no room for valorisation at this moment. Poland 2050 leader Szymon Hołownia stated this stance clearly.
On Sunday, PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński announced that the 500 plus allowance would be replaced with a new rate, 800 plus, starting in the new year. In response, the PO leader Donald Tusk proposed implementing the change on June 1 this year, which is Children’s Day. On Tuesday, the PO chairman announced that the KO club would submit a Sejm bill on Wednesday to index the 500 plus benefit to 800 PLN.
Later on Tuesday, Poland 2050 leader Szymon Hołownia discussed the PiS and PO proposals in a Facebook podcast, presenting a measured critique of the plans.
Hołownia emphasized that the group would oppose the proposals in their current form, underscoring that promising such changes five months before elections does not feel serious to voters. He added that the key question should be who bears the cost and who ultimately receives the 800 plus, stressing that raising the 500 plus could trigger inflationary pressures.
He repeated the line that there is no room for valorisation today, underscoring a cautious fiscal stance.
Platform project
The leader of Poland 2050 also commented on the platform’s plan to submit a bill on indexation of the 500 plus benefit to the Sejm. He suggested that if the draft reaches Parliament, the party would work with PSL to craft provisions that could make the law fair and effective.
PSL has proposed a criterion whereby valorisation would apply only to working people, and Hołownia said the solution should be paired with an income criterion to target support better.
He argued that today there is no space in Poland to give everything to everyone. A responsible Polish state should assist those in genuine need, using public funds wisely and targeting help to those who can most effectively use it to create broader benefits for society, not equally distributing it to all.
This approach, Hołownia suggested, would ensure that the aid reaches individuals who can leverage it to generate value for their households and the wider community.

On Tuesday, Marlena Maląg, Minister of Family and Social Policy, said on RMF FM that PiS’s policy is well considered and consistent, and that the plan to raise the 500 plus starting January 1 remains the most suitable option. She noted that the measure had been planned as part of the budget order and communications around it were clear.
