In the coming 3 to 4 months, the party plans to articulate its message to the Polish people, outlining what it hopes to offer and what priorities it will advance, according to Krzysztof Sobolewski, the general secretary of Law and Justice (PiS). He added that PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński would begin touring the country again within the next 2 to 3 weeks.
Preparations for the elections
During a program on Polish Radio, Sobolewski was asked about the election campaign and the makeup of electoral lists, including whether coalition partners might be involved.
Sobolewski indicated that several elements were still being shaped and would soon become the subject of coalition discussions.
He described talks with Kukiz’15 as a clearly relevant possibility.
He noted that the question of what the electoral lists will look like is a matter for months ahead, with elections expected in October. Lists would need to be registered at the start of September.
Several topics lie ahead, and discussions will proceed with discretion, Sobolewski said.
Asked when campaign events might begin, Sobolewski suggested that the program assumes a three to four month horizon before such events are announced, with the aim of clarifying what the party intends to offer Poland and reflecting on achievements since 2015.
Regarding the president’s travel plans, Sobolewski described the return tour as a matter of two to three weeks.
MPs on PiS lists?
Discussions about the form of the electoral lists continue to be a priority, Sobolewski, who is responsible for party structures, told PAP. He said that all variants remain on the table and that the party will consider which MPs might appear on the lists.
Recently, PiS MP Marek Suski noted on RMF FM that current PiS MPs are popular and that their presence on national election lists would likely boost results.
From this, Sobolewski remarked that it would be desirable for colleagues to be included on the party’s lists for the upcoming election.
As the secretary general who oversees party structures and helps prepare electoral lists, he added that details about the form of the lists were still being worked out.
Asked about the possible participation of PiS members of the European Parliament in the parliamentary elections, Sobolewski replied that nothing is ruled out and that all options remain on the table. Decisions on these questions will be made by the party leadership in due course.
Former Prime Minister, now PiS MEP Beata Szydło was asked on Radio Plus whether she would return to national politics. She stated that all PiS members would be heavily involved in the election campaign and that the party would do everything to win. She emphasized the ongoing discussion about what the lists would look like, whether coalitions would appear on the lists, who would run, and that these decisions would be made by the party leadership in due course. She also highlighted the focus on her current work in the European Parliament, noting the significance of Poland’s situation and the EU’s stance as important considerations.
Parliamentary elections are scheduled for the autumn of 2023, according to the election calendar.
