A recent Law and Justice advertisement criticized the government for its handling of PKP Cargo, drawing a pointed response from politicians belonging to the December 13 coalition who accused PiS of mismanagement.

Jan Grabiec, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, commented on the PiS spot via the X platform. He argued that the party has hired relatives, diverted funds, increased the company’s debt to five billion zloty, deceived employees, and now laments the lost jobs caused by those moves, calling PiS audacious in the process.

KO member of the European Parliament, Dariusz Joński, weighed in during an interview with PAP. He described PiS and Prime Minister Morawiecki as extraordinarily shameless for eight years, noting that PKP Cargo’s value fell from nearly 4.5 billion PLN in 2015 to about 600 million PLN after years of stagnation. He asked where almost four billion PLN of the company’s previously positive value disappeared and added that in 2015 PKP Cargo controlled 60 percent of the rail transport market, a share that had shrunk to 30 percent eight years later.

Joński conveyed the hope that Morawiecki and those responsible for PKP Cargo would be held accountable for the decline of what he described as a financial “goose that laid golden eggs.” He contended that PKP Cargo entities must answer for mismanagement and actions detrimental to the company, and he urged accountability from the Public Prosecution Service for a former prime minister who, according to him, knowingly accepted these conditions and is now trying to divert attention from his actions and the people he appointed.

Moskal’s statement

Another speaker at the conference, referred to as Moskal, faced criticism from the KO circle. Joński remarked that Moskal, whose family reportedly worked at PKP Cargo, was not in a position to speak with credibility about the issues. He asserted that connections and relatives without relevant expertise had been placed in PKP Cargo, including the president, who allegedly held a PiS membership card and is described as a former PiS member of parliament.

Joński underscored that the government’s objective remains the preservation of PKP Cargo. He stated that the intention is to safeguard the carrier and preserve PKP Cargo as a strategic national asset.
