Former Deputy Foreign Minister Piotr Wawrzyk, who chose not to testify during the committee meeting examining the visa affair, published a statement on platform X. In it, he offered several details that were missing from the committee session and provided further context to what was discussed.

He explained that he fully supports what was presented in the inquiry but believes an additional point is important. After he declined to testify, the meeting was adjourned rather abruptly by a nervous MP Michał Szczerba, despite the readiness of his own legal representative, Adv. Michał Grodzki, to submit further applications. Wawrzyk noted that those applications were legally permissible and that the chairman’s visible nervousness appeared to drive the decision to end the session prematurely.

Wawrzyk added that, since the Commission had not offered an opportunity to submit further documents, he wanted to reference them here as crucial for the proper functioning of the services involved. He stressed that it was necessary for the Commission to obtain information from the Central Anti-Cinforcement Bureau about whether he had reported signs of corruption and whether he had been warned about suspected irregularities. He also highlighted the importance of verifying the contents of his work phone. He indicated that this thread, along with several others about the usual activity procedures of ministers from different ministries under various governments, is essential to addressing the issue at hand.

In his statement, he also expressed regret that his attorney’s request to exclude from the proceedings a person who directly referred to him as a “criminal” was not granted. He argued that, beyond the secrecy of the process, participating in an interrogation with that individual would have been a farce and would have created unnecessary stress. He stated that such a test would not contribute to resolving the case.

Wawrzyk affirmed his continued willingness to cooperate with law enforcement investigations, underscoring that nothing had changed in that regard.
