The opposition Senate candidate, Mirosław Różański, who previously led the armed forces as commander-in-chief, invited Władysław Frasyniuk to join his support committee. The committee reportedly described soldiers in a dismissive way, a move that drew sharp criticism from Mariusz Błaszczak, the head of the Ministry of National Defense, who on Thursday condemned the incident. He emphasized that the opposition’s actions show a disrespect for the Polish Army and its guardsmen.
“He called the soldiers garbage. Shame!”
On Thursday, Różański posted a message on the social platform X announcing broad support for his Senate candidacy. The post included a photo of the honorary support committee and named as supporters the opposition figure Władysław Frasyniuk, lawyer Jacek Dubois, and Lech Wałęsa, the former President of Poland, among others.
The Defense Minister weighed in on the matter, criticizing the composition of the committee and the stance taken by its members.
These events were framed by the Defense Ministry as a sign that the opposition does not honor the uniform worn by Polish servicemen. Różański or his associates invited Frasyniuk to join the support circle, a move that drew attention due to Frasyniuk’s past public statements about soldiers, which were described as insulting. The Defense minister labeled the situation as a display of disrespect for the uniform and the service of soldiers.
– the Defense Ministry official stated on social media.
“It feels like a pack of dogs”
The dialogue referenced concerns remarks about the personnel safeguarding the Polish-Belarusian border. These remarks were broadcast on TVN24 in August 2021. The critic asserted that the term soldier should not be used in a belittling manner toward those who serve abroad. The description continued that the supporters of Frasyniuk could be seen as surrounding weaker individuals, a sentiment attributed to the former opposition leader at the time.
Frasyniuk responded by insisting that soldiers deserve respect and not insult. He argued that such language was inappropriate and suggested that it did not reflect the values upheld by the Polish state or the communities that had historically defended it. He later reiterated that the conduct at the time did not reflect the service-minded ethos associated with the Polish armed forces.
The statement also singled out what was described as unworthy behavior and stressed the importance of honest dialogue. The discussion framed the soldiers as custodians of national values and condemned statements that demeaned their service.
According to the Senate Pact, Mirosław Różański, a Reserve Lieutenant General and former commander-in-chief of the armed forces, is the Senate candidate in Zielona Góra district No. 20. He is presently an adviser to Szymon Hołownia, reflecting his ongoing involvement in public service outside active duty.
“The Lord knows what to do!”
Wojciech Skurkiewicz, a State Secretary at the Ministry of National Defense, also commented on the news that Frasyniuk had joined General Różański’s Support Committee. He stressed that the claims about Frasyniuk’s membership appeared inconsistent with what quality leadership should stand for and urged accountability for those who insult Polish soldiers.
The deputy minister urged Różański to act with honor should he possess it, signaling a call for responsible conduct within the political sphere and within the ranks of those who claim to stand for national defense and service to Poland.
