Russian officials have been discussing the grain agreement during talks set to take place on May 5 in Moscow. The press secretary for the president, Dmitry Peskov, outlined the stance of the Russian Federation as the negotiations approach. He emphasized that Russia is keen on the terms of the accord and that the commitments already agreed upon should stay in place once the agreement becomes effective.
In remarks from the Kremlin, it was noted that discussions about the deal are ongoing. Yet there were cautious signals — described as very modest — that some progress could be possible in this round of dialogue.
Maria Zakharova, a former spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, indicated that the next round of discussions between Russia’s interdepartmental delegation and representatives from the United Nations regarding the implementation of the memorandum between Russia and the UN Secretariat on promoting Russian products and fertilizers to global markets is scheduled for May 5 in Moscow.
Prior to this, Hulusi Akar, the Turkish defense minister, commented on the anticipated meeting involving delegations from Türkiye, Russia, and Ukraine focusing on the grain agreement. His remarks highlighted anticipation for concrete outcomes from the talks amid the ongoing negotiations.
President Putin’s spokesperson also noted that talks on extending the grain agreement, which is set to expire on May 18, have not produced final results yet. The discussions continue as all sides weigh the terms of extension and possible amendments to ensure continued flow under the memorandum’s framework.
